August 13 Scripture Reading

Scripture Readings: Psalm 137, Nehemiah 7:4-73, Luke 13:22-34

Reflection Verse: Psalm 137:4

Reflection: The psalmist is in such despair in his exile that he is unable to sing the songs of Zion in the land of his captors, even when asked to do so. He has no joy about his situation, and he does not want to forget God. There are times when being joyful is not easy for any of us. But when we remember that we are God’s children and that God is with us, we are able to rejoice.

Prayer: Father God, in this season there are forces that make us feel that we are in a strange land. Our life is so different now and it is hard to find joy with so much death and sickness around us. Lord, help us to remember that You are with us even in these strange times. Help us to get joy just from the remembrance of Who You are. Then, O’ Lord, enable us to take that joy with us as a witness of Your grace and mercy in our lives no matter how strange the days are… In Jesus’ name. Amen.
