Scripture Readings: Proverbs 15:6-11, Jeremiah 27-29:23, John 7:1-32
Reflection Verse: John 7:23
Reflection: The Jewish tradition required a male to be circumcised 8 days after he was born, even if the eighth day was the Sabbath. However, Jesus got in hot water with the religious authorities for healing a man on the Sabbath. According to Jewish Law/Tradition, His act was unlawful. Jesus pointed out the hypocrisy when He compared the tradition of circumcision, which could occur on the Sabbath day to healing which occurred on the Sabbath. Hmmm.
Prayer: Lord God, Help us to follow YOUR Word at all times. But also, help us to show compassion for your people, even if it put us in harm’s way. Help us to be mindful, that our acts do not become hypocritical, in that we say one thing yet do something entirely different. May what I do bring glory to You, Lord… In Jesus’ name. Amen.
