Scripture Readings:  Proverbs 16:17-27, Jeremiah 37-38, John 9:13-41

Reflection Verses:  Jeremiah 38:27-28

Reflection:  In the scripture reading today, Jeremiah was under no obligation to tell anyone about what he and the king had discussed. Jeremiah revealed to the king what God had instructed him to say. That was no one else’ business. Even then Jeremiah still remained in prison and was there when Jerusalem was captured.

Beloved, any conversation shared between a pastor and another person is confidential and is not to be revealed by the pastor. In this day of “social” media people often do not understand this concept. However, it remains the duty of pastors to protect the flock of God. May God keep all pastors faithful to only reveal The Word of God and to keep other matter confidential. Amen.

Prayer for Halloween:  Lord God, I commit all Halloween activities to You.  This time of the year was celebrated in the past to give You glory, but it is now used to give evil a place of acceptance. For that I repent and ask Your forgiveness. I ask You to purify me, my family, my extended family of friends, and the Body of Christ, that we will draw closer to You and seek to keep our hearts pure. I am reminded that Jesus died for just that purpose… that we might worship the living God, not something dead.

I particularly pray for churches who have “Trunk or Treat” or “Fall Festival” outreach events. I pray for those who will attend these events and that these events will open doors for many people to come to Christ.  I ask You, Lord, to protect the children as they engage in activities.  I ask You, Lord, to protect those who come into my neighborhood that they may be touched by Your grace and mercy in their lives. For those who would do evil, I ask for You, Lord, to draw them closer to You, so they can come to know You and Your Son, Jesus, in whose strong Name I pray.  Amen.
