October 11 Scripture Reading

Scripture Readings:  Proverbs 11:21-27, Isaiah 57-59, James 3

Reflection Verse:  James 3:1

Reflection: James has a sober admonition for those who would become teachers in the church. They must take the responsibility seriously, because their accountability is greater, and they shall receive a stricter judgment.  James reminds us that being among the teachers in God’s church is more than a matter of having natural or even spiritual gifts; there is an additional dimension of appropriate character and right living. “James found that this department of church-work had become extremely popular. Hence his warning about its serious responsibilities. God will judge us on the last day with special strictness on account of our influence over others.”

Prayer:  Lord God, bless those of us who are called to be teachers to be diligent to only teach the Truth of Your Word… and for those who are not called to that office, please give them a mind to stay away from it. Bless us, Heavenly Father that we teach the Truth and that we live the truth. Let every teacher keep in mind that “to whom much is given, much is required” … In Jesus’ Name.  Amen.
